I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. My parents migrated from Ghana to the United States with the intention of giving my sister and me the opportunity to obtain U.S. citizenship. From ages five to eight, I lived with my dad and sister in Ghana while my mom completed her Bachelor’s degree in Houston. However, returning to the United States was a tough transition for me. As one of the few Black girls in my class and with a heavy Ghanaian accent, my name was often mispronounced, and my peers made fun of it. At one point, I even begged my mother to give me a “normal” name. But I eventually realized that my name is a powerful reflection of my family, heritage, and identity. I made a promise to myself that I would succeed in life so that no one would ever mispronounce “Aminee Siriboe” again.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In 2019-2020, my family faced a difficult time. My parents divorced, and we encountered significant financial problems. We had to sell our childhood home and move into a small two-bedroom apartment. At one point, I even doubted whether I would be able to afford college tuition. Thankfully, LSU offered me an updated financial aid package and scholarship that allowed me to continue my education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a student at LSU, I initially aspired to become a fashion journalist, dreaming of working at Vogue<\/em> or Harper\u2019s BAZAAR.<\/em> However, after obtaining an internship with Legacy Philanthropy\u2014a nonprofit that curates charity events for professional athletes\u2014I found my love for sports. This experience introduced me to the intersection of media, branding, and the power of storytelling in the sports industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I am pursuing my master\u2019s degree at the University of Southern California, majoring in Public Relations and Advertising. I am also a teaching assistant for Professor Jeff Fellenzer\u2019s Sports Business JOUR 380<\/em> class, where I continue to deepen my understanding of the industry. My passion lies in public relations and crisis communication, particularly in the sports industry, where I hope to help athletes and organizations navigate challenges, protect their reputations, and craft impactful narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
